Saint Damien of Molokai,won recognition for his ministry from 1873 to 1889 in the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi to people with leprosy (also known as Hansen's disease), who were required to live under a government-sanctioned medical quarantine on the island of Molokaʻi on the Kalaupapa Peninsula. Saint Marianne of Molokaʻi known for her charitable works, in 1883 relocated with six other sisters to Hawaiʻi to care for persons suffering Hansen's Disease on the island of Molokaʻiand aid in developing the medical infrastructure in Hawaiʻi. 

This museum is a tribute to Father Damian, Sister Marianne and the residents of the Leper colony.
